UAE Calls for Open Strait of Hormuz Amid Global Trade Concerns

The United Arab Emirates has said that the Strait of Hormuz must be an open international waterway. The United Arab Emirates is warning against any attempts by one party to control or use the Strait of Hormuz as a weapon. This is one of the world’s important maritime routes.

Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, the United Arab Emirates Minister of Foreign Trade, spoke at the GLOBSEC Forum 2026 in Prague. He said that it is essential for global trade and energy security to have navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

The United Arab Emirates Minister of Foreign Trade was speaking to officials, policymakers and business leaders. He was talking about the economic impacts of regional conflicts. Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi said that the United Arab Emirates is taking steps to reduce the problems caused by instability in the region.

The United Arab Emirates Minister of Foreign Trade said that the United Arab Emirates has started using trade corridors. This is to keep supply chains working after disruptions caused by tensions in the Gulf region. He also announced the launch of a one billion dirham economic support fund. This fund will help small and medium-sized businesses keep operating.

Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi said that the United Arab Emirates has sped up its plans to change its logistics and infrastructure. This is in response to geopolitical developments.

The United Arab Emirates Minister of Foreign Trade said that the Strait of Hormuz must remain open and accessible to navigation. No country or group should be allowed to use the Strait of Hormuz as leverage against the economy.

The United Arab Emirates has said again that it is committed to strengthening trade partnerships. The United Arab Emirates is doing this through its Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements programme. Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi said that the United Arab Emirates has signed 35 trade agreements across six continents. This has helped increase the United Arab Emirates’ non-oil foreign trade to more than one trillion dollars in 2025.

The United Arab Emirates is trying to position itself as a global trade and logistics hub. The United Arab Emirates is doing this despite the uncertainties in the region. The United Arab Emirates wants to be a place where trade and logistics can thrive.
