The accident happened on the Valparai-Pollachi Ghat Road. This road is very dangerous because it has a lot of turns and steep drops. The police said the van lost control on the turn and fell multiple times before stopping near the ninth turn.

There were 12 people in the van. Most of them were from Malappuram district in Kerala. The people who died included six teachers, a school staff member, a family member and a 12-year-old boy. Seven women also died in the accident. This shows how sad and tragic the accident was.

The group had spent the day visiting the Athirappilly Waterfalls. Then they went to Valparai to see the sights. The accident happened when they were driving back to Pollachi in the evening.

The emergency services came quickly after people who saw the accident told the authorities. Rescue teams from the areas helped get the people out of the van and took the injured to the hospital. Three of the people, including the driver, were very badly hurt and were taken to a better hospital in Coimbatore.

The police think the driver may have lost control of the van because the road was very steep. They are still trying to figure out exactly what happened. They will look at whether the van had any problems if the road was bad and if the driver was too tired.

The road from Valparai to Pollachi is very pretty but very dangerous. It has 40 very sharp turns. The authorities have warned people to be careful when driving on this road when going downhill. You have to be careful with your brakes and speed.
