Apple’s newest iPhone release has turned into a big public event in India, with fans lining up outside stores while the same iPhone 18 can be ordered online and delivered in minutes in some places.
The iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max began selling across India at8 amm on September 18. Long lines were seen outside Apple Stores in Mumbai, Delhi, Noida, Bengaluru and other cities. Some fans came hours before opening. Some waited all night.
The scenes were surprising because fans had ways to buy the new models. Apple opened pre‑orders on September 12, and online sales did too. Quick‑commerce sites also gave launch‑day delivery.
Delivery versus the launch experience
BigBasket said it delivered over 300 iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max units by 9 p.m. This means fans were getting the phones at a pace of more than five units per minute after sales started.
Blinkit and Zepto also joined the launch‑day rush in places that qualify, giving fans another way to avoid lines.
Yet for Apple fans, the yearly release is about more than convenience. Being one of the customers inside a store picking up the brand‑new iPhone 18 personally and sharing the moment with other fans has become part of the iPhone 18 tradition.
Some fans also travelled from parts of India to reach Apple Stores for the occasion.
