Dubai: Dubai Municipality has introduced automated technology at the Dubai Central Laboratory to speed up the testing of oils and fats. The new system cuts analysis time from two hours to only two minutes.

The new system is designed to make food safety checks and to allow authorities to process many more samples. Dubai Municipality reports that the laboratory’s daily testing capacity has grown by 900 % rising from six samples to 60 samples a day.

The technology performs automated analysis without intervention. It can identify signs of oxidation and changes in the quality of oils and fats during manufacturing and storage.

Faster testing strengthens food safety checks

The introduction of the technology is expected to strengthen Dubai’s food control capabilities. It lets laboratory teams receive results quickly and respond faster to possible quality concerns.

Faster analysis can also support monitoring of food products. It helps ensure that oils and fats used or sold in the emirate meet approved quality and safety standards.

Hind Mahmoud Ahmed, Director of the Dubai Central Laboratory Department at Dubai Municipality said the technology represents a step in advancing the laboratory’s testing capabilities through scientific and technological solutions.

She said the system improves testing speed and efficiency while keeping the accuracy and reliability needed for food safety and consumer protection.

Green laboratory practices

Beyond improving testing capacity the new technology also supports Dubai Central Laboratory’s move toward sustainable laboratory operations.

Traditional testing methods require consumables, while the new technology eliminates the need for these materials. This reduces resource consumption and the environmental impact associated with laboratory testing. Dubai Municipality said the approach keeps compliance with standards while improving operational efficiency.

The faster testing process is also expected to boost consumer confidence. It lets authorities spot quality issues earlier.

Supporting Dubai’s food sector

The Dubai Central Laboratory continues to expand its capabilities through the adoption of advanced technologies focused on accuracy, efficiency and sustainability.

The latest upgrade is part of efforts to strengthen food safety oversight across Dubai while supporting the quality of products available to consumers. With testing capacity rising from six to 60 samples per day, the laboratory can now handle a larger volume of oil and fat samples. This helps regulators keep pace with developments in the emirate’s food manufacturing sector.
