The World Health Organisation is really worried about the Ebola outbreak in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. This outbreak is getting worse fast, and it is going to be very hard to stop it because more and more people are getting infected and dying.
The health people in Congo say that so far the Ebola outbreak has caused around 131 deaths, and there are over 500 suspected cases. The World Health Organisation is very concerned about how the Ebola outbreak is spreading, especially now that it has reached neighbouring Uganda.
This Ebola outbreak is caused by the rare Bundibugyo strain of Ebola. The problem is that there is no vaccine or treatment for this strain of Ebola yet. The World Health Organisation has already said that this outbreak is a public health emergency and they are looking at what they can do to stop it, including using experimental vaccines.\
The Ebola outbreak started in Congo’s Ituri province, which is a place that has a lot of conflict and not very good healthcare. The health people are having a hard time trying to isolate patients and give them medical help because of all the violence and people moving around.
Uganda has already had some Ebola cases from people who came from Congo. There are suspected Ebola cases in some big cities in Congo, like Goma and Butembo.
The Health Minister of Congo, Samuel Roger Kamba, said that they did not realise how bad the outbreak was at first, so it got worse. Some people thought that the illness was caused by things, not by a virus that can spread from person to person.
The World Health Organisation has sent emergency teams and medical supplies to the areas that are affected by the Ebola outbreak. Other organisations are also helping to set up treatment centres and labs. However, the ongoing conflict and the fact that it is hard to reach some areas are making it difficult to stop the outbreak.
Other countries are also taking precautions. The United States is checking the health of people who come from the areas where the outbreak is happening. Other countries are watching the situation closely because they are worried that the Ebola outbreak could spread to other areas.
