UAE Indian Schools Start Academic Year Online Amid Regional Tensions

Dubai/Sharjah: Indian curriculum schools in the United Arab Emirates started the school year online. This is because there are problems in the region that make it hard for families and teachers to know what to do.

On the day of school thousands of students did not go to their classrooms. Instead they stayed at home. Logged in on their computers. This is not how school usually starts. Normally it is a time when everyone’s excited to see their friends and start new things.. This time schools had to think about keeping everyone safe.

The people in charge of schools say that they are not just thinking about what students learn. They are also thinking about how students feel. They want to make sure students feel safe and happy. This is especially important because some students are learning from places and have different situations at home.

The principal of GEMS Our English High School, Dr Sheeba Jojo said that schools need to help students feel calm and ready to learn. Many families are worried so schools need to make an environment before students can start learning.

Some schools, like The Indian Academy School Dubai had meetings before school started. These meetings helped students and parents get used to learning on computers and being in classrooms.

Schools had to change a lot of things to work online. They had to figure out how to get students enrolled make schedules and keep students engaged. One of the things is keeping younger students paying attention. Teachers are trying to make classes more fun by adding games, breaks and checks to see how students are doing.

For students who are just starting school, like kindergarten students this has been very hard. Schools are helping parents by giving them support, training and practice classes.

Even though this is a time schools say that students, parents and teachers are all being very strong and able to adjust to the situation. They are all working together to get through this start to the school year. Indian curriculum schools are doing their best to make sure everyone has a year even if it is online.
