Abu Dhabi Airport Gradually Resumes Flights, Rallies Support for Thousands of Stranded Passengers

After several days of significant disruption, Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi has begun to resume limited flight operations. The restart follows intensive coordination between Abu Dhabi Airports, the Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Management Centre, and key partners across government, aviation, and hospitality sectors. Authorities emphasized that the phased resumption is being managed carefully to prioritize the safety and wellbeing of all travellers.

Swift Action to Support Affected Travellers

During the disruption, authorities launched a major support effort to help the thousands of passengers whose travel plans were upended. Over 4,300 complimentary hotel rooms were arranged across 74 hotels to house approximately 7,000 stranded travellers. Hotels and hospitality providers worked around the clock to ensure guests were comfortable and had access to essential services, including meals and basic amenities.

Coordinated Response Across Sectors

The support extended well beyond just accommodation. A wide network of government agencies and private partners came together to provide shuttle transportation between hotels and the airport, along with refreshments, hospitality services, and retail vouchers to ease the inconvenience of extended waits. Medical support was also available for those in need, ensuring that health and wellbeing remained paramount throughout the ordeal.

Unified Effort Highlights Abu Dhabi’s Preparedness

Officials pointed out that the smooth coordination between the aviation, hospitality, and government sectors was key to stabilizing the situation and supporting affected travellers. The collective effort showcased Abu Dhabi’s ability to respond swiftly and compassionately during times of crisis.

Traveller Guidance as Operations Recover

As operations at Zayed International Airport gradually return to normal, airport authorities are urging passengers to stay informed by checking directly with their airlines for the latest updates before heading to the airport. Travellers with confirmed bookings should contact their airlines for revised departure schedules and arrival times to avoid any further inconvenience.

The recent disruption demonstrated not only the resilience of Abu Dhabi’s air travel infrastructure but also the emirate’s commitment to passenger care and operational excellence, even in challenging circumstances.
