Modi gifts “Melody” toffees to Meloni during Rome visit

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had some fun at Rome’s Colosseum on Wednesday. They were getting ready for some talks about how India and Italy can work together more.

They took some selfies together at the Colosseum, and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni even said thank you to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for bringing her some toffees called “Melody”. This was a joke because “Melody” sounds like “Meloni”. A lot of people saw this in the media, and it felt more personal.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi got to Rome on Tuesday. This was the first time an Indian Prime Minister had visited Italy in 26 years. India and Italy want to work more because things are changing in the world of trade.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni wrote something together in a newspaper called Corriere della Sera. They said they want to work more and they want to increase trade between India and Italy to more than 20 billion euros by 2029.

They said they want to work on things like making weapons, aeroplanes, car parts, clothes, clean energy and computers. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi think that Italy is good at designing and making things, and India is good at growing and innovating.

The Indian Embassy in Italy said that India and Italy traded 14.25 billion euros a year. This shows that the two countries are working together more and more.

That day Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni were going to have some formal talks at an old villa in Rome called Villa Pamphili. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also said he was going to visit the Food and Agriculture Organisation to show that India cares about working with other countries and about food security.

This visit to Rome is a stop on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to Europe. It shows that India wants to work with European countries more. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni are making sure that India and Italy have a relationship.
