Dubai Unveils Traffic Upgrades for 2026: Eight Hotspots Targeted

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has kicked off a major traffic improvement initiative targeting eight of the city’s busiest areas, in a move set to make driving smoother and safer as Dubai’s population and number of vehicles keep climbing.

These upgrades are just the start—part of over 45 traffic enhancement projects planned for 2026 as the city continues to grow.

Where will you notice the changes?

The RTA’s list of targeted spots includes:

  • Emirates Road (from Sharjah to Wadi Al Amardi Street)
  • Umm Amara Street (from Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Wasl Street)
  • Jebel Ali–Lehbab Street
  • Around Al Jaddaf Metro Station (between Sama Al Jaddaf and Al Jaddaf Waterfront)
  • Al Na’ayat Street in Al Barsha 1
  • Near Al Maktoum School in Al Satwa
  • The intersection of Al Ittihad and Al Quds Streets
  • Sheikh Rashid Street near Grand Hyatt Dubai towards Bur Dubai

Once completed, authorities say journey times in these areas could improve by 15 to 30 percent.

What’s changing?

Expect to see some roads widened from one to two lanes, roundabouts replaced with traffic signals, and new road links connecting major arteries with busy residential and commercial areas. The overhaul will also bring safer, more efficient intersections, expanded parking near schools and key institutions, and a range of new road safety measures.

Smart solutions for a growing city

The RTA says these projects are shaped by real-time traffic monitoring and on-the-ground assessments, allowing for targeted solutions where bottlenecks are most severe. With control centers tracking daily congestion and teams identifying trouble spots, the focus is on easing peak-hour logjams and making commutes safer and more efficient across Dubai’s high-traffic corridors.

As the city looks ahead to 2026 and beyond, drivers can look forward to faster, less stressful journeys—and a road network ready to handle whatever the future brings.
