Dense Fog Blankets Dubai, Disrupting 35 Flights at DXB and DWC

Operations at Dubai’s two international airports were disrupted early Tuesday after dense fog reduced visibility across parts of the emirate, affecting a total of 35 flights, airport authorities said.

Dubai Airports confirmed that adverse weather conditions hit both Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) since the early hours of Tuesday morning. As a result, 12 flights were cancelled, while 23 inbound flights were diverted to alternate airports.

A spokesperson for Dubai Airports said visibility dropped to just a few hundred meters in some areas, leading to temporary disruptions in air traffic movement. The foggy conditions also slowed down road traffic, with vehicles crawling along several major highways across Dubai.

Dubai Airports, which operates the world’s busiest international airport, said it’s working closely with airlines and service partners to minimize inconvenience to passengers and get normal operations back up and running as quickly as possible.

“Dubai Airports is working closely with airlines and service partners to minimize disruption to guests and restore normal operations as soon as possible,” the spokesperson said. “Passengers are advised to check directly with their airline for the latest flight information before heading to the airport.”

Authorities didn’t specify how long the weather-related disruptions were expected to last, but conditions were being closely monitored.

Travelers have been urged to allow extra time for their journeys and stay updated through airline notifications as operations gradually return to normal.
