UAE-India money transfers may face delays starting September 28 due to a planned bank strike in India. Indian public sector banks will open on Sunday, September 27, giving customers one day to complete transactions before the walkout begins.

Dubai residents who need to send money to India around the end of September should plan. Indian bank unions have announced a three-day strike scheduled from September 28 to 30. This action could affect some remittances sent from the UAE to India that require manual processing or verification by staff at the receiving bank in India.

Not all international transfers will be delayed. The impact depends on the remittance provider and the receiving bank. Whether the transaction can be processed automatically. Some transfers may still go through without issues.

The strike follows a bank holiday in India on Saturday, September 26. To help customers, the Ministry of Finance has allowed public sector banks and regional rural banks to operate on Sunday, September 27. The Reserve Bank of India has approved this move for branches, offices, ATM-linked branches and currency chests.

This additional banking day gives people a chance to finish transactions before the strike starts. The United Forum of Bank Unions is pushing forward with the strike over its demand for a five-day banking week. Talks held on Tuesday did not lead to an agreement,t and both the government and bank management have asked unions to delay the action.

Will mobile banking and UPI continue to work during the strike? Digital banking services like mobile and internet banking, ATMs and UPI are expected to remain available. Banks recommend using these platforms whenever possible.

Just because digital access is available does not mean the money will reach the recipient quickly. UAE-to-India transfers often involve steps, including processing by the sending remittance provider and checks by the receiving bank.

What should UAE residents do? Those sending money for needs should check the delivery estimate provided by their UAE bank or exchange house before confirming a transfer. It’s also important to know if the quoted processing time includes the funds reaching the recipient’s bank account. Keep the transaction reference number in case you need to trace a payment.

The strike might still be postponed, so UAE residents sending money to India should keep checking for the news before making any time-sensitive transfers. Staying informed helps avoid delays.
