Dubai RTA has introduced measures to make student safety stronger and improve transport services before the 2026-2027 school year. Schools across the emirate will reopen on August 31.
The measures consist of a 30‑day inspection campaign for school buses, stricter checks on drivers and attendants, more taxis and higher bus frequencies in important school zones.
30-day school bus inspection drive
As part of its preparations, Dubai RTA will conduct inspections of school buses across Dubai for 30 days. The campaign will focus on vehicle safety, readiness to operate and compliance with required rules.
Specialised field teams will also verify that school bus drivers and attendants hold permits. Awareness campaigns will remind them of their responsibilities to keep students safe during their journeys. Dubai RTA has issued circulars to school bus operators calling for operational readiness and compliance with safety rules before buses return to service.
More transport choices for families
Parents will have options through dedicated school mobility services offered by e-hail limousine operators such as Careem School Rides, Uber Teens and BOLT School.
These services use drivers and new vehicles, giving families more choices for transporting children to and from school.
The School Ride Pooling initiative in Al Barsha available through the Yango app, will also provide shared rides for students. Make school journeys more efficient.
Students can also receive a fifty per cent discount on Dubai RTA transport, including the Metro, Tram and public buses, when using a student Nol Card.
taxis and frequent buses
To handle higher demand at school opening and closing times, Dubai RTA will increase taxi availability in several school zones across Dubai.
Bus services will also be strengthened, with frequency increased on more than thirty routes serving areas such as Al Nahda, Muhaisnah, Al Barsha, Al Quoz, Dubai Silicon Oasis and Al Garhoud.

Dubai RTA said its preparations combine inspections, regulatory checks, field monitoring and expanded transport capacity to create a safer and more reliable school commute.
Seat belt use remains mandatory on school buses and in ride-pooling and ride-hailing services. With schools reopening on August 31, these measures are intended to support parents, schools and transport operators while ensuring students have reliable and comfortable journeys during the new academic year.
