Donald Trump said any future peace deal with Iran needs to be part of a plan to make peace in the Middle East. He said countries like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt and Jordan should make friends with Israel through the Abraham Accords.
On Monday Trump posted a message on social media. He said these countries should join the Abraham Accords as part of a plan to make peace in the region, which includes Iran.
This made people uncertain about talks between the US and Iran. Both sides were recently not expecting a deal to happen soon.
Trump said that after the US tried hard to make peace in the region, it should be a must for those countries to agree to the accords. The Abraham Accords were made in 2020. They helped make peace between Israel and some Arab countries like the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. Many countries do not agree with this. Saudi Arabia and Qatar said they will not make friends with Israel unless there is a Palestinian state.
These comments came when the US and Iran were trying to make a ceasefire work. Diplomats are trying to make a deal. The talks are sensitive about Iran’s nuclear program and security concerns in the region. Trump also said any deal with Iran would have to be great and meaningful. If not, there would be no deal. This shows he is still putting pressure on Tehran during the talks.
Marco Rubio said that making progress in the talks is possible. This made people hopeful, and oil prices went down. Iran does not think a deal will happen soon. Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said that while some progress was made, saying a deal is close is not true.
Some experts said Trump’s conditions could make the fragile talks more complicated. They said Gulf nations are worried about security and what their people will think if they make friends with Israel quickly.
Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel and the US want any deal with Iran to get rid of what they see as the Iranian nuclear threat. These developments are happening when there is a lot of tension in the Middle East. Diplomacy, alliances and energy security are still important for stability.
