Fresh Israeli airstrikes hit Lebanon overnight. This happened one day after talks between Lebanese and Israeli officials in Washington. These talks were trying to calm down the conflict. It seems they are not working.
In the city of Tyre smoke was rising over damaged areas. People were carefully moving through streets filled with rubble and debris. Tyre was once a place for people who had to leave their homes but now its getting hit too. This is leaving civilians feeling very unsafe.
The fighting is still going on between Israel and Hezbollah which is supported by Iran. Israeli military officials said they hit over 200 sites linked to Hezbollah in Lebanon. They did this because of rocket fire towards Israel.
The number of civilians hurt is still going up. A drone strike near Tyre killed a 19-year- woman named Ghadir Baalbaki. She was sitting outside her home with her family before the attack. Her death made people in the area very sad. Many have already had to leave their homes and are struggling.
Families are burying their loved ones in cemeteries. This is because its hard to get to their hometowns near the fighting. The Lebanese government says over 2,000 people have been killed and more than one million have had to leave their homes since the fighting started.
The violence is affecting the talks in Washington. These talks were a meeting between Lebanese and Israeli officials. The Lebanese government thinks talking is the way to end the conflict. However Hezbollah does not want to negotiate. They think it’s a sign of weakness while attacks continue.
The strikes in Beirut have slowed down a bit. Southern areas are still in danger. Many people have to stay in their homes because they have else to go.
As diplomacy is not working the ongoing violence shows how apart political efforts and reality are. This leaves civilians stuck in a dangerous and uncertain situation. Israeli strikes are still happening. Southern Lebanon is still, in danger. Civilians are still suffering.
