Etihad Rail Steps Up: Over 350 Passengers Safely Returned Amid Travel Disruptions

Etihad Rail has played a crucial role in getting more than 350 UAE citizens and residents safely home during recent regional travel disruptions, running three special passenger train services in close partnership with the Abu Dhabi Emergencies, Crises and Disasters Management Centre (ADCMC). The swift response highlights the UAE’s growing ability to keep essential services running—even in times of uncertainty.

The exceptional trains operated between Al Ghuwaifat Station, near the Saudi border in Al Dhafra, and Al Faya Station in Abu Dhabi City. This allowed passengers returning from Saudi Arabia to board at the border and travel directly into Abu Dhabi by rail—well ahead of the official launch of Etihad Rail’s passenger services to the public.

This rapid activation of emergency rail services demonstrates several strengths. First, it ensured the safe and efficient transportation of hundreds of travelers without disruption or delay. Second, it confirmed the operational readiness of Etihad Rail and Abu Dhabi’s authorities to deploy alternative transport solutions at a moment’s notice. Equally important, freight operations continued smoothly throughout, proving the resilience and flexibility of the national rail network.

The cross-border effort was made possible through close coordination with Saudi authorities, ensuring passengers could move seamlessly from one country to the next despite broader travel challenges and suspended flights.

All safety protocols were in full effect, with technical teams and operational staff deployed along the route to guarantee a smooth journey. Authorities noted that additional train services will be provided as needed until air travel fully resumes and flight schedules return to normal.

For UAE residents, the message is clear: alternative transport options are available when disruptions occur. Officials advise travelers to keep an eye on updates from Etihad Rail and ADCMC, as more details about the phased rollout of passenger rail services are expected soon.

This operation is a testament to Abu Dhabi’s proactive approach to crisis management, showing how quickly infrastructure can be mobilized to maintain service continuity and safeguard public well-being during regional developments.
