Donald Trump has issued an ultimatum to Iran: strike a “meaningful deal” over its nuclear program within 10 days—or face the consequences. The warning comes as the US and Israel ramp up both diplomatic and military pressure, raising fears that the standoff could tip into open conflict.
Speaking in Washington on Thursday, Trump said negotiations with Iran have long been challenging. “We have to make a meaningful deal otherwise bad things happen,” he warned, hinting that the US could “take it a step further” if talks fail. He suggested that significant developments could unfold in the coming days.
Military buildup in the region
The warning isn’t just rhetoric. US military forces are consolidating across the Middle East, with carrier strike groups and long-range bombers now within operational range of key Iranian nuclear and missile sites. While Trump hasn’t confirmed any final decisions, the increased presence signals that Washington is preparing for all possibilities, even as diplomatic channels remain open.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu echoed Trump’s tough stance, warning that Iran would face consequences “they cannot even imagine” if hostilities break out.
The escalation follows a second round of Omani-mediated talks in Geneva between US and Iranian officials. Iranian negotiators reportedly asked for more time to refine their proposals, while US officials described the talks as constructive but admitted that major disagreements remain.
Wider international alarm
The rhetoric and military movements have triggered concern among other countries. The White House press secretary stated there are “many reasons and arguments” that could justify military action, reinforcing the administration’s hard line.
Iran, for its part, has pushed back against the threats. Officials in Tehran insist they will not give up their right to enrich uranium and maintain that they do not seek war—but will defend their interests if necessary.
As tension rises, Poland has advised its citizens to leave Iran, Germany has scaled back troop deployments in northern Iraq, and Russia has urged restraint, warning that any escalation could have unprecedented consequences.
With a deadline now set and military assets on alert, the world is watching anxiously to see if the coming days will bring renewed diplomacy—or direct confrontation.
