Friday Morning Accident on E311 Sparks Major Sharjah–Dubai Congestion

Friday morning brought extra headaches for commuters traveling from Sharjah to Dubai, as a major accident blocked multiple lanes on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311) near Expo City Dubai.

Eyewitnesses reported that several vehicles were involved in the crash, including a truck that overturned and three cars that suffered significant damage. The incident triggered long tailbacks stretching for kilometers in the direction of Dubai South, with emergency crews rushing to the scene to clear the wreckage and assist the injured.

Ripple effects across key routes

The blockage on E311 made an already busy morning even tougher, compounding traffic on several main arteries:

  • Al Ittihad Street (E11): Heavy congestion from Al Khan in Sharjah to Al Mulla Plaza in Dubai, slowing both inbound and outbound flows.
  • E311: Bumper-to-bumper movement from Muwaileh Commercial toward Qusais Cemetery as drivers crawled past the accident.
  • D92: Moderate delays from Al Mamzar to Abu Hail.
  • Dubai–Hatta Road (E44): Slow-moving traffic near Dubai Design District as vehicles funneled toward Business Bay.
  • Sharjah–Dubai industrial connectors: Internal roads saw spillover congestion as drivers searched for ways around the gridlock.

Meanwhile, Emirates Road (E611) remained relatively clear in both directions, making it a good alternative for motorists able to reroute.

Minor crashes add to the chaos

Traffic monitoring platforms flagged additional minor accidents throughout the corridor, further aggravating the slowdown. Authorities have urged drivers to stay patient, keep a safe distance, and avoid sudden lane changes to prevent more incidents.

Advice for drivers

  • Allow extra time for your morning commute
  • Consider using E611 or other alternate routes if possible
  • Stay tuned to official traffic updates and navigation apps
  • Exercise extra caution near accident scenes

Authorities say congestion should ease once the affected vehicles are cleared, but drivers are encouraged to remain vigilant and plan their journeys carefully for the rest of the morning.
