Eid Al Fitr 2026: How UAE Residents Can Maximize Their Holiday

Ramadan has just begun, but across the UAE, the buzz is already building for Eid Al Fitr 2026—and the possibility of a truly epic holiday stretch.

So, when is Eid Al Fitr this year?

Based on the UAE’s official calendar and expected moon-sighting dates, Eid Al Fitr is likely to start on Friday, March 20, 2026, and run through to Sunday, March 22. That means a three-day public holiday, right in line with the weekend—a perfect recipe for a mini-vacation!

But here’s the twist: If the Shawwal crescent moon is sighted a day early, Eid could kick off on Thursday, March 19, delivering a four-day break. The final call will come from the moon-sighting committee as Ramadan wraps up, so keep an eye out for official announcements.

How do you turn this into a 9-day getaway?

Here’s the game plan if Eid starts on Friday, March 20:

  • Enjoy your regular weekend: March 14–15 (Saturday–Sunday)
  • Book annual leave for: March 16–19 (Monday–Thursday)
  • Celebrate Eid: March 20–22 (Friday–Sunday)

Voilà! Just four days of leave, and you’ve unlocked a glorious nine-day holiday—from March 14 all the way through March 22. That’s more than enough for a relaxing escape, a family adventure, or just some well-deserved downtime at home.

If Eid lands on Thursday, March 19 instead, a slight tweak to your leave dates will still give you a long break to recharge.

Why do Eid dates keep shifting?

It’s all about the moon. The Islamic calendar runs about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian one, so Ramadan and Eid slide earlier every year. That’s why the holiday never falls on the same date twice.

A word to the wise:
All these dates are predictions—the official holiday will be declared only after the moon is sighted and the government gives the green light. If you’re planning to travel, consider flexible bookings or wait for confirmation to avoid last-minute surprises.

Eid is more than just a holiday—it’s a time for family, celebration,
