Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has unveiled the “Edge of Life” Ramadan campaign—a far-reaching humanitarian initiative aiming to save five million children under the age of five from the grips of malnutrition and hunger.
Announced just ahead of the holy month, the campaign embodies the UAE’s deep-rooted tradition of launching impactful charitable drives during Ramadan. In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Sheikh Mohammed described Ramadan as “a generous month that is so dear to us,” and reaffirmed the country’s annual commitment to global humanitarian action.
The “Edge of Life” campaign, launched in partnership with a network of international organizations, seeks to raise at least Dh1 billion both in the UAE and abroad. The funds will go directly to urgent nutrition and food programmes targeting vulnerable children—those described as being “on the edge of life.”
Sheikh Mohammed highlighted the stark reality faced by millions worldwide, noting that more than 118 million children suffered from malnutrition last year, with approximately 2.6 million young lives lost to hunger. “It is neither our trait nor our value to hear of such a human tragedy unfolding before the eyes of the world and do nothing about it,” he asserted, calling for action in the face of global suffering.
Emphasizing the spirit of Ramadan—generosity, compassion, and collective responsibility—Sheikh Mohammed urged both individuals and institutions to rally behind the campaign and support life-saving efforts. He concluded his message with prayers for the UAE and its people, encouraging unity and charity, especially in “feeding the hungry” among the world’s poor and needy.
As Ramadan approaches, the “Edge of Life” campaign is set to inspire widespread participation across the country. The initiative not only aims to save lives but also underscores the UAE’s role as a leading global humanitarian donor, reinforcing the nation’s values of empathy and solidarity.
