Chennai: Sangeetha, wife of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor C Joseph Vijay, has withdrawn her divorce petition against him, bringing the proceedings before the Chengalpattu Family Court to an end.

Sangeetha appeared before the court through video conference on Friday and informed Judge Sujatha that she no longer wished to pursue the case. After questioning her, the court accepted the withdrawal and closed the proceedings, according to reports.

The divorce petition had been filed earlier this year and had attracted significant attention because of Vijay’s prominent political position. In the petition, Sangeetha alleged that Vijay was involved in an extramarital relationship with an actress, claiming that she became aware of the alleged relationship in April 2021.

The allegations were made as part of the divorce proceedings and have not been established by a court. Vijay has not publicly confirmed the allegations. The case also generated discussion around Vijay’s election affidavit. Questions were raised over a declaration stating that he had lent Rs 12.60 crore to Sangeetha.

A related petition seeking an inquiry into the election affidavit was dismissed by the Madras High Court in April. The court noted that a similar petition had previously been rejected, while allowing Sangeetha to withdraw the petition and giving her the option to approach the court again if required.

The conclusion of the divorce proceedings comes as Vijay continues to balance his political career with his long-standing public profile as an actor. He heads the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and, according to the supplied report, became Tamil Nadu chief minister following the 2026 Assembly election.

Vijay and Sangeetha married in 1999 and have two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Shasha.

The withdrawal means the current divorce proceedings have been formally closed by the Chengalpattu Family Court. The supplied report does not state why Sangeetha decided to withdraw the petition.
