On Monday, Congress leader VD Satheesan had a meeting with his Cabinet. This was after he was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Kerala. This means that the Congress-led United Democratic Front is back in power after ten years.
The Governor of Kerala, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, gave VD Satheesan and his twenty-member team the oath of office. This ceremony took place in Thiruvananthapuram. Many senior Congress leaders were there, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and KC Venugopal.
Other Chief Ministers and senior leaders from states ruled by the Congress party also came to the ceremony. These included Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
Some other important people who were at the ceremony were former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar and CPI leader Binoy Viswam.
VD Satheesan and other senior leaders from the Congress party and its allies took the oath as ministers. IUML leader PK Kunhalikutty was the minister to be sworn in after VD Satheesan. Some other important ministers are Ramesh Chennithala, Sunny Joseph, K Muraleedharan, Mons Joseph and Shibu Baby John.
Before the ceremony, VD Satheesan said that senior Congress leader Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan would be the Speaker of the Assembly. He also said that Shanimol Usman would be the Deputy Speaker.
After taking office, VD Satheesan said that the new Cabinet was formed to make sure there is a balance between different parts of society, different regions and men and women. He said that they made sure to include women and people from the castes when they were choosing ministers.
The United Democratic Front won the Kerala Assembly elections in a way in 2026. This ended the ten-year rule of the Left Democratic Front in the state.
VD Satheesan is a lawyer. Has been representing the Paravur constituency since 2001. He won his election to the Assembly this year. He used to be the Leader of the Opposition and became one of the well-known faces of the United Democratic Front campaign against the Left government.
