Authorities in Dubai are going to have an event to look at the moon on May 17 2026. This event is to see the crescent that marks the start of Dhu Al Hijjah, the month of the Islamic lunar calendar and the time leading up to Eid Al Adha.
The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai is hosting this event at the Jebel Nazwa Trail. It will start at 5 pm. Go on until they see the moon after the sun sets. The people in charge think a lot of people will come to this event and they are inviting families and kids to join in.
The people who thought of this event want to bring back the old Islamic way of looking at the crescent moon. They also want to use ways of looking at the stars to help with this. Dr Hamad Mohammed Saleh, who is in charge of the Timings and Crescent Observation Section, says this event is a way to teach people about the ways of looking at the moon. He wants to use science and what the Sharia says to help people understand.
Some people who study the stars think the new moon of Dhu Al Hijjah will be born after midnight on Sunday, May 17, at 12:01 am UAE time. If this is true, then the first day of Dhu Al Hijjah will probably be on Monday, May 18.
If this is confirmed, then the Day of Arafah will be on Tuesday, May 26. This is the day of Dhu Al Hijjah. Eid Al Adha, which is on the day of the month, will probably start on Wednesday, May 27 2026.
