India lifts airfare caps airlines are free to set prices

The Ministry of Civil Aviation in India has said that they are removing the temporary airfare caps on domestic flights. This means that airlines in India can now decide what they want to charge for tickets starting from March 23.

They put these caps on prices on December 6 2025 because there were problems with flights and prices were all over the place. This was especially true with IndiGo. The idea was to help passengers by keeping prices from getting too high when there were not flights available.

Now the Ministry of Civil Aviation says that things are back to normal. Airlines are flying like they used to. Everything is stable. So they think it is okay to let airlines decide what to charge for tickets

Airlines can now set their prices based on how many people want to fly and how seats they have available. The Ministry of Civil Aviation is asking airlines to be fair and make sure their prices are reasonable and clear. They want airlines to think about what’s best, for passengers when they are setting their prices.

Officials also said they will keep an eye on airfare trends. They will take action if ticket prices go up much or without a good reason especially during holidays or when there are travel disruptions.

The government can step in if needed. Might even set a limit on fares again if it’s good for the public. This change is expected to give airlines freedom to operate, and it’s a big step towards things getting back to normal in India’s domestic air travel market.
