The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a crucial advisory to students, parents, and schools as the Class 10 and 12 board exams approach, starting February 17, 2026.
This year, more than 4.6 million students are set to sit for the exams across India and 26 countries worldwide. The board’s advisory is aimed at ensuring a smooth examination process and helping students remain stress-free and prepared.
Arrive Early and Plan Your Route
CBSE has emphasized the importance of punctuality: students must reach their exam centers by 10:00 am, with exams starting at 10:30 am (IST). No late entries will be allowed after 10:00 am. The board also warns of possible traffic congestion, route diversions, and delays due to national or international events during the exam period. Students are advised to leave home early and, if possible, visit their exam center in advance to familiarize themselves with the route.
Key Changes for 2026
This year, CBSE has rolled out three major reforms:
- A second Board Examination opportunity for Class 10
- Introduction of On-Screen Marking (OSM) for Class 12
- Division of Science and Social Studies papers for Class 10
For Class 12, over 1.8 million students across 120 subjects will have their answer scripts evaluated through digital on-screen marking. This move is expected to shorten evaluation time from 12 to 9 days, minimize transport delays, and reduce human intervention. Notably, no post-result mark verification will be allowed.
What to Bring—and What Not To
Students must have their original CBSE admit card, a valid photo ID, a black or blue ballpoint pen, a transparent water bottle, and a passport-size photo (if required). Prohibited items include mobile phones, smart devices, calculators, notes, or bags.
Conduct in the Exam Hall
Students are expected to follow invigilators’ instructions, maintain silence, and carefully fill in answer sheet details. Any form of malpractice will result in strict action. The board urges cooperation during frisking and entry verification to ensure exams are conducted smoothly and fairly.
