Abu Dhabi Lowers Speed Limits on Three Major Roads to Improve Safety

Abu Dhabi has reduced speed limits on three key roads across the emirate, with the new rules taking effect from 12pm on Monday, as authorities ramp up efforts to improve road safety and cut down on traffic accidents.

The Joint Traffic Safety Committee announced that speed limits have been lowered by 20 kilometres per hour on the affected roads, in both directions. Officials are urging motorists to stick to the new limits and drive safely to protect themselves and other road users.

Authorities have started updating road signage and recalibrating radar systems to reflect the changes, the committee said.

One of the main changes applies to the Abu Dhabi–Al Ain Road (E22). On the stretch between Al Nahda Interchange and Baniyas Interchange, the maximum speed has been reduced from 160 km/h to 140 km/h. Another section of the same highway, from Baniyas Interchange to before the Bridges Complex — between Zayed City and Mohammed bin Zayed City — has seen the limit lowered from 140 km/h to 120 km/h.

Speed limits have also been reduced on Al Rawdah Road (E30), which connects the Musaffah area with Mohammed bin Zayed City. On this road, the maximum speed has been cut from 120 km/h to 100 km/h in both directions.

The move comes amid broader traffic safety initiatives across the UAE, where authorities have been reviewing speed limits and enforcement measures to reduce serious accidents and fatalities. Drivers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and stay alert to updated signage as the new limits are enforced.
