Dubai: An Indian-flagged commercial vessel sank in waters off Yemen on Tuesday after being struck by a projectile, raising fresh concerns over the security of merchant shipping in the Red Sea. All 14 crew members, including 13 Indian nationals, were rescued safely by the Yemeni Coast Guard.
India’s Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, said this was a thing to do to a civilian ship. He said the government told the people in charge of the ships to work with countries in the area to make sure the rescued crew is okay and to make the ships safer for Indian sailors.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs also said they were working with the people in Yemen to help the crew and make plans for what to do. They thanked the rescue teams for acting so fast and said they are worried about the number of attacks on ships in the Red Sea.
The Ministry of External Affairs said the situation is very worrying and asked all countries to follow the rules of the sea and make sure ships can sail through the trade routes without any problems. This attack happened because there are a lot of security risks in the Red Sea and nearby areas.
