US President Donald Trump said that American forces and Nigerian forces worked together to carry out an operation that killed a leader of Daesh, Abu Bilal Al Minuki. He said this operation was a success against terrorism around the world.
On Truth Social, Trump wrote that he directed this operation and that American and Nigerian forces worked closely together. He said the operation was carefully planned and very complicated. Trump also said that Abu Bilal Al Minuki was one of the active terrorists in the world.
Trump said that Al Minuki tried to hide in Africa, but they were able to track him down using information from intelligence sources. He said that this operation made Daesh much weaker and less able to plan attacks on civilians and American interests.
Abu Bilal Al Minuki was already in trouble with the US because of his ties to Daesh and the US had put sanctions on him in 2023. The US saw him as a player in Daesh’s General Directorate of Provinces, which is in charge of operations and funding in many different areas.
Trump thanked the government for helping with the operation. However, he did not say where the operation took place or what kind of operation it was, such as airstrikes or special forces.
Nigeria has been dealing with a lot of violence from groups like Daesh and Boko Haram for a long time. Nigerian forces have also been fighting against gangs known as “bandits.”
Lately, the United States has been working closely with Nigeria to fight terrorism, especially in West Africa and the Sahel region. The US has sent personnel to help with training and counterterrorism operations.
This announcement comes at a time when the US is trying to stop groups, like Daesh and Al Qaeda, from operating in Africa, especially in areas that are not very stable. The US is working to combat these groups and make the region safer.
