The Philippines got a shipment of diesel fuel to help make sure they have enough fuel and does not run out when there are problems with getting fuel from other countries. The Philippine National Oil Company took care of getting the fuel to the country. They got 44,199 tonnes of diesel fuel, which is about 329,505 barrels or 52 million litres of fuel.
The fuel arrived at the Subic Bay facility in Zambales on April 10. The people in charge like this facility because it is a place to store and move fuel around. They want to ensure the country has fuel in case there are problems obtaining it from other countries.
The Philippines is trying to build up its fuel supplies so it is not affected much by problems in the global fuel market. Even though they got a lot of fuel, it will only last for a while. If people use fuel as they normally do, the 52 million litres of fuel will only last for 40 hours. If people use a little less fuel, it could last for up to 10 days.
The government helped get the fuel to the country by giving the Philippine National Oil Company a special permit. This permit allowed them to skip some of the steps they have to take when getting fuel.
The Philippine National Oil Company is also trying to get fuel to store for emergencies. They want to get up to 2 million barrels of oil and 22,000 metric tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas.
The Philippines uses a lot of diesel fuel 30 to 33 million litres every day. They use it for transportation like for jeepneys, buses and trucks and for making things in factories and generating power.
Because the global fuel market is not stable the Philippines is trying to make sure it has fuel. The latest shipment of fuel shows that the country is trying to be prepared. It also shows that they are still at risk if there are problems with getting fuel, from other countries.
