IndiGo Increases Airfares with New Fuel Fee Due to Jet Fuel Costs

Airfares between India and the UAE are going to go up because IndiGo has changed its fuel fees. This change is happening because the cost of jet fuel has increased a lot.

The airline said that the new fees will apply to all bookings made from April 2. This will affect both international flights.

IndiGo is making this change because the cost of aviation fuel has gone up by than 130 per cent from last month. Fuel is an expense for airlines. So they are adjusting their prices to cover these costs.

New Fuel Fee Structure

The new fees are as follows:

  • For flights to the Gulf and Middle East that’re up to 2,000 km the fuel fee will be ₹3,000
  • For flights that’re more than 2,000 km the fuel fee will be ₹5,000
  • For flights the fuel fees will range from ₹275 to ₹950

People travelling on routes like Dubai to Mumbai and Abu Dhabi to Delhi will see a change in their ticket prices. The prices are expected to go up in the coming weeks.

IndiGo had introduced fuel fees in mid-March. Many airlines in Asia are making changes due to the high cost of fuel and other expenses.

The Indian government has set a limit on how much of the increased fuel cost can be passed on to passengers. For travel the limit is 25 per cent. This is to help balance the airlines costs with the affordability for travellers.

What IndiGo is doing is part of a trend in the aviation industry. Airlines, around the world are changing their fares. Adding fees because of high fuel prices and other issues.

For travellers it is an idea to plan ahead and book early to avoid higher ticket costs.
