Countries in Asia are trying hard to get Russian oil as the war between the US, Israel and Iran is causing big problems with the worlds oil supply. This is making it tough for many countries to get the oil they need.
The Strait of Hormuz which is an important route for oil is almost closed. This route is used for a fifth of the worlds oil and many countries in Asia like India, China and Southeast Asian nations rely on it. Now they are struggling to get oil.
Many countries want Russian oil
Countries like the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam are now buying oil from Russia. India and China which have been buying oil for a long time are buying even more. They are taking advantage of the prices of Russian oil even though some countries had put restrictions on it.
The US has temporarily allowed Russian oil to be shipped and many tankers are on their way to find buyers.. Experts say that Russia can’t export much more oil so it can’t help the market as much as it could.
Competition for oil gets tough
Many countries in Asia are competing to get Russian oil. India uses a lot of oil and China has some oil stored but smaller countries are struggling. They are running out of options. It will take months to get oil from other places.
The Philippines is already feeling the effects with fuel prices and not enough oil. They are trying to help people by giving them money and rationing fuel.
Economic problems grow
The lack of oil is causing inflation to rise, with fuel prices affecting transportation and manufacturing costs. Governments in Asia are trying to help by cutting taxes and telling people to save energy.
The situation is still uncertain and if the conflict gets worse or shipping routes are disrupted oil prices could go higher. This would be bad for the economy.
This crisis shows how quickly global energy dynamics can change. For countries in Asia getting energy now is more important, than long-term plans. Russian oil is helping,. Its not a permanent solution.
