Qatar Airways Gets Green Light for Limited Routes After Airspace Closure

Special Authorisation Allows Partial Resumption of Service

Qatar Airways has announced a limited schedule of flights between March 13 and March 17, following the temporary closure of Qatari airspace that forced the suspension of most of its regular operations. The move comes after the airline received special authorisation from the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority to operate select routes via restricted air corridors, providing a vital lifeline for stranded travellers.

Efforts Focused on Clearing Backlog and Reuniting Passengers

The airline said the reduced schedule is designed to help clear the backlog of passengers impacted by the disruption and enable travellers to complete journeys that were interrupted by the sudden suspension of flights. Priority is being given to those with urgent travel needs and passengers with connecting flights, as Qatar Airways coordinates efforts to manage the crisis.

Thousands of Travellers Impacted by Disruption

With the abrupt closure of airspace, thousands of passengers have been left waiting for updates on their travel plans. Many journeys were either cancelled or significantly delayed, creating a backlog and increased congestion at airports. The airline is urging all ticket holders to check their flight status regularly before heading to the airport, as schedules remain subject to change.

Gradual and Cautious Return to Service

While some flights will operate during the March 13–17 window, Qatar Airways has made it clear that a full return to normal commercial operations is not yet possible. Authorities are closely monitoring the security situation and will only reopen the country’s airspace when deemed safe. In the meantime, the airline is working in close coordination with aviation officials to update passengers and adapt to evolving conditions.

Commitment to Passenger Support

Qatar Airways has reiterated its commitment to assisting travellers during this challenging period, with a focus on helping families reunite and ensuring passengers reach their destinations safely. The airline has pledged to continue providing updates and support as the situation develops, and encourages all passengers to remain patient and vigilant for further announcements.

This temporary measure reflects the airline’s determination to restore connectivity and minimise disruption as the region navigates ongoing airspace challenges.
